For the next three months Nazareth Housing will provide case management services to approximately 22 households impacted by the gas explosion that destroyed three buildings in the East Village on March 26th. Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) will also be providing case management services to those affected.
The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City has raised $125,000 to support individuals and families directly affected by the explosion and building collapse. The Mayor’s Fund will collaborate with LESReady!, a coalition of 40 organizations that coordinates disaster responses in the Lower East Side, to administer long-term case management and direct financial assistance for individuals and families who resided in the five buildings impacted by the blast. These five buildings include 63 residential
units, 15 of which were destroyed and 48 of which were damaged.
Nazareth Housing, a LESReady! member, has stepped up to commit resources to help the community in the aftermath of the explosion and the resulting displacement of many Lower East Side families as emergency
response services begin to phase out. Local organizations will take on the majority of long-term care for victims of the blast, mainly through LESReady!.
Michael Callaghan, Executive Director of Nazareth Housing and Vice Chair of LESReady!, said “As a founding member of LESReady!, Nazareth Housing is pleased to provide direct supportive services and partner with
GOLES and the Mayor’s Fund to ensure effective support for our neighbors displaced by the tragic explosion.”
Support services through Nazareth Housing, GOLES, and LESReady! began on Monday, April 13th. Those affected and wishing to seek assistance and support can contact LESReady! at 212-533-2541 to learn more.
