The New York Community Trust Awards $78,000 to Nazareth Housing to Prevent Homelessness in New York City

Nazareth HousingNews, Press Releases

In February 2019, The New York Community Trust awarded Nazareth Housing $78,000 through its Promising Futures – Human Services program area to support the Housing Stability Support Project (HSSP). Designed by Nazareth Housing to assist formerly homeless and at-risk households, HSSP is a comprehensive suite of programs aimed at strengthening housing stability and economic mobility.

Since 2006, HSSP has helped to keep thousands of low-income families and individuals in their homes through intensive case management, urgent needs assistance, benefits enrollment, financial coaching, and more. Preventing the immediate threat of homelessness avoids significant trauma for families, keeps New Yorkers out of the shelter system, and maintains neighborhood affordability, while complementary programs such as financial coaching and educational programming provide clients with the skills and resources to thrive in the future.

The New York Community Trust’s Promising Futures – Human Services program supports nonprofit programs that “mitigate the effects of poverty, increase opportunity through effective services and public benefits, and reduce racial disparities.” Its award to Nazareth Housing will support the expansion of the Housing Stability Support Project to the Bronx and its enhanced capacity on the Lower East Side.

The funds making up this grant are derived from the Trust’s Sheila Kelley Kaufman Fund, Good Samaritan Fund, Homeless Outreach and Assistance Fund, Rhodebeck Fund for the Homeless, Patricia Anderson Fund, and Wilhelm Lowenstein Memorial Fund.

Nazareth Housing expresses its sincerest gratitude to the donors and staff at The New York Community Trust who made this grant possible – thank you!
