We are honored to have been awarded a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to help us address the problem of increasing housing instability in New York City by elevating our housing and homelessness prevention efforts through our Financial Capability & Economic Mobility Program.
The Financial Capability & Economic Mobility Program seeks to improve the wellbeing of underserved New Yorkers by strengthening the economic foundations necessary to support healthy households. There are many benefits that accrue from success. From the participant perspective, there are direct cost savings available when credit scores improve, including better finance charges and improved borrowing rates for mortgages, auto loans, and other large purchases. Helping families attain a stable financial foundation is a fundamental step to fighting poverty, allowing individuals and families to more fully benefit from other programs that can help them.
We are so grateful for the support from the Sloan Foundation and excited to continue our work in the communities we serve, helping individuals and families build pathways out of poverty, and avoid homelessness.
The ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION is a not-for-profit, mission-driven grantmaking institution dedicated to improving the welfare of all through the advancement of scientific knowledge. Established in 1934 by Alfred Pritchard Sloan Jr., then-President and Chief Executive Officer of the General Motors Corporation, the Foundation makes grants in four broad areas: direct support of research in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and economics; initiatives to increase the quality, equity, diversity, and inclusiveness of scientific institutions and the science workforce; projects to develop or leverage technology to empower research; and efforts to enhance and deepen public engagement with science and scientists.
