On May 21, 2025, something remarkable happened. Our community came together for Nazareth Housing’s Annual Benefit, and the result was nothing short of extraordinary—we broke our fundraising record and took a bold step forward in our mission to combat housing instability and food insecurity in New York City.
The evening was filled with powerful stories, meaningful connections, and deep gratitude. We were honored to recognize two exceptional individuals for their unwavering support:
-
Dave Markowitz of Goldman Sachs, for his outstanding commitment to community impact.
-
Patricia L. Glorioso, recipient of this year’s Community Service Award, for her enduring dedication to our mission.
Introducing a New Way to Give
For the first time, we launched a Text-to-Give campaign in support of Louise’s Pantry—a program that began in 2012 after Superstorm Sandy devastated the Lower East Side. What started as an emergency response, thanks to the generosity of Anna and Jim Fantacci, has grown into a critical pillar of our organization.
Today, Louise’s Pantry serves over 450 households each week across two locations, one in the Lower East Side and one in the Bron. That’s more than 250,000 meals annually, and it goes far beyond food.
As Leonard Shavel, our Treasurer, reminded us during the event:
“Food insecurity isn’t just a crisis that comes with a storm. For many low-income New Yorkers, it’s a chronic reality.”
More Than a Pantry—A Pathway
Our pantry is often the first point of contact for families in need—a safe, welcoming space where trust is built. Through those connections, we’re able to provide eviction prevention, benefits enrollment, financial counseling, and long-term housing support.
Mildred Perez, our Chief Program Officer, shared how deeply the pantry touches lives:
“During the Thanksgiving season, we ensure that families in our community don’t have to choose between putting food on the table and keeping the lights on.”
Charlotte Meyers, co-chair of our Junior Board, echoed the heart of our work:
“The pantry is not just about groceries—it’s about access, dignity, and transformation.”
And new Junior Board member Kathryn Leto, who began volunteering with us through her company, Veronica Beard, offered a personal reflection:
“What we thought would be a one-time volunteer day turned into something more. We didn’t want to leave. The relationships we’ve built keep us coming back every month.”
Join the Movement
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made the Benefit such a success. But our work is far from over—and there’s still time to make a difference.
