Volunteering in NYC

NYC Service has released a new report, The Power of Volunteering: Findings on Connection, Unity, and Health of Volunteers in NYC Survey, offering an in-depth look at how volunteering impacts individuals and communities across New York City.

Between December 2024 and January 2025, 8,156 New Yorkers were surveyed about their volunteer experiences, the personal benefits of giving back, and the broader effect on their neighborhoods. Among the findings:

  • 65% of respondents said volunteering helps them feel less lonely.

  • 82% of current volunteers—and 78% of those who have volunteered in the past—agree that volunteering is a critical action for advancing community change, equity, and justice.

At Nazareth Housing, our mission is to provide housing stability and economic independence for families, seniors, and youth in New York City. For those passionate about helping New Yorkers remain stably housed, volunteering with us offers a chance to put that commitment into action.

Nazareth Housing volunteers take on meaningful, hands-on projects such as revitalizing building interiors, beautifying exteriors, assisting at holiday events, chaperoning children’s trips to NYC landmarks, and hosting specialized workshops. These experiences not only strengthen the community but also create lasting connections among participants.
