2026 ANNUAL BENEFIT

A Successful Evening. A Stronger Community.

Nazareth Housing’s 2026 Annual Benefit was a tremendous success, raising more than $675,000 to support the organization’s critical homelessness prevention and housing stability programs. Held on May 19 at SECOND in Manhattan, the evening brought together supporters, partners, volunteers, and community members to celebrate the impact of compassionate, community-based services across New York City.

During the event, Nazareth Housing proudly honored Jeffrey W. Ferguson with the Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to service and community impact. The organization also presented its Community Service Award to Mildred Perez for her dedicated leadership and years of service supporting families experiencing housing instability.

In her remarks, Executive Director Rachel Levine reflected on the realities many low-income New Yorkers face and the importance of trusted, holistic support systems.

“To truly understand the work we do at Nazareth Housing, it helps to imagine what a year might look like for many of the people who come through our doors,” Rachel said. “At some point during the year, SNAP benefits may be delayed or reduced. Rent may increase while wages stay the same. A family may face mounting utility bills or an unexpected medical expense. Someone may lose health insurance or miss work while caring for a sick child. A parent may need help filing taxes, completing a college financial aid application, or adding a newborn to a lease or a public assistance case.”

She continued, “Each one of these challenges alone can feel overwhelming. But for many low-income New Yorkers, these issues do not happen one at a time. They happen all at once. And when people are overwhelmed, what they are often looking for is not simply a service. They are looking for someone they trust. Someone who will treat them with dignity. Someone who understands the system and can help them navigate both the immediate crisis and the longer road ahead. That is where Nazareth Housing comes in.”

The evening also highlighted the meaningful connections built through Nazareth Housing’s programs and volunteer community. Alison Kelly, co-chair of the Nazareth Housing Junior Board, shared reflections on her experience volunteering with families and children served by the organization.

“One of the things I love most about being involved with Nazareth Housing is that you don’t just hear about the impact—you get to see it and feel it firsthand,” Alison said. “I’ve helped serve Thanksgiving dinner to families gathered around the table together. I’ve spent afternoons doing crafts with children at holiday parties, watching them laugh and just enjoy being kids. I’ve spent Saturday afternoons at book club, where I’ve been able to sit and read with the children, learn about what they’re studying in school, and hear about the things they’re excited about.”

“Those moments may seem small, but they’re incredibly meaningful,” Alison continued. “Because what Nazareth Housing provides is more than housing support or emergency assistance. It creates stability, community, and the kind of environment where families can begin to exhale, where children can feel safe, celebrated, and supported.”

Funds raised through the Annual Benefit will directly support Nazareth Housing’s programs focused on homelessness prevention, housing stability, food security, financial empowerment, and supportive services for vulnerable New Yorkers and families across the city
